A message from the President -
Dear Members,
The year 2000
season was a great year for Cape May National.
We hosted three professional events. The Skee
Riegel Pro Am is one of the tri state region's
stellar events which has become so popular that even
with a double shotgun, golf professionals are now on
a waiting list. The Philadelphia PGA asked
Cape May National to host their Senior Championship
which was won by John Carson. John Carson's
victory is fitting because as a kid, I worked for
John at Warrington CC re-stringing and finishing
golf clubs in the pro shop.
The major
tournament, the PGA Section Match Play Championship
was again hosted by Cape May National for the sixth
straight year. Rob Shuey was the winner and
coverage was provided by Comcast which added to the
excitement.
Further
enhancing Cape May National's reputation as an
excellent championship golf course, the State Four
Ball event was also played here. It was the
thirtieth professional or State Championship hosted
by Cape May.
The USGA
invited Skee Riegel, the 1947 US Amateur Champion
and I to the Champion's Dinner at The Golf
House. What a thrill it was to see the Golf
Museum with Skee ho was there for the first
time. What a tour guide! Skee knew just about
everyone pictured.
Our tenth
anniversary is approaching and the celebrations will
start with the dinner on March 23rd. Suffice
it to say for now, it has been a great ten years and
the most wonderful group of members and players with
fondness for Cape May National made it that way.
Yours truly,
Bob Mullock

From Guest Services
This year marks our tenth
anniversary. We are all excited as we
celebrate our past and look forward to the future
with great expectations. There will be special
events throughout the coming golf season to
celebrate. As the golf season approaches, I'd
like to thank you all for renewing your memberships
and wish you well in the new year. Also, as
always, I am here for all of you should you need
anything. Julie Repici is also here to lend a
hand with any questions or comments you may
have.
Best
Wishes,

From the Golf Pro -
As we forge our
way into the tenth year at Cape May National, I
would like to thank the members who have grown with
the club. Looking back, ten years is not very
long, but many great things have taken place and
will continue to do so.
In 2001,
the pro shop will still feature top of the line
clothing, equipment and accessories, along with the
member buying program. I encourage the
membership to come out and try the many new demo
clubs the shop will have during the golf
season. Also I look forward to working with
you on your game should you need help. I am
available. Please call or stop by the pro
shop.
A
highlight for the membership in 2000 was our trip to
Pineneedles Golf Resort in Southern Point, North
Carolina. The trip had 10 members and two
professionals. It was sonderful and is
something I plan to run each year. I hope it
will fit into your schedule during the first week of
November. All are welcome.
Let's
make 2001 the first and best golf season of the new
millenium.
Best Wishes,
David C. Smith Jr.

From the Superintendent -
Reflecting upon the 2000 golf season, we will be
replacing old irrigation heads with state of the art
new heads. There are 527 heads throughout the
course. We are about half way completed and
will be adding heads where needed. Selected
tees have been rebuilt and will be open this
spring. They are #2 ladies and men, #14 mens
and #13 blue and black. #13 and 14 have
doubled in size and additional rebuilding of tees
will commence this fall.
We will aerate and thatch fairways in early March,
weather permitting. The pond banks are going
to be cut back. This will include the right
side of #5, along the par 3 #6, #15 and #16.
We will be adding almost 30 tons of sand to improve
the existing bunkers.
In March, new fencing will be built on the driving
range and in the fall the next phase of cart paths
will be completed. When done, Cape May
National will have over 5 miles of paved cart paths.
